I took this xkcd comic and marked up each cell with the appropriate link. (Links will open in a new window.)

It's a bit nerdy, I know, but I got bored.

Subject: Lovely message
From: *****

Gosh Ryland, thanks for such a beautifully tender and Christian message. Imagine my delight when I discovered it; a perfect example of the blatant hypocrisy of the Catholic Church, specifically, and Christianity in general.

Keep it up; it really encourages would be Christy-ians to become Atheists.

GREAT WORK! Keep it up; I really look forward to your next 'creation.'

Thank you!!

PS I am delighted to make sure that this wonderfully Christian message gets distributed far and wide.

Oh, you can thank Fark.com for showing it in the first place

What did I do now? Sigh.

I'm leaning towards voting for the presidential candidate not endorsed by the worst president in American history.

Just a rule of thumb. Common sense, really.

Fresh on the heels of the DHS making the decision to move the Plum Island biohazard facility from an isolated location on an island, to Mississippi, comes the news that the Bush administration has decided to reduce the reach of the Endangered Species Act.

In 2005, the House passed a bill that would have made similar changes to the Endangered Species Act, but the bill died in the Senate.

The sponsor of that bill, then-House Resources chairman Richard Pombo, R-Calif., told the AP Monday that allowing agencies to judge for themselves the effects of a project will not harm species or habitat.

"There is no way they can rubber stamp everything because they will end up in court for every decision," he said.

But internal reviews by the National Marine Fisheries Service and Fish and Wildlife Service concluded that about half the unilateral evaluations by the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management that determined wildfire prevention projects were unlikely to harm protected species were not legally or scientifically valid.

Suuuuurrrrreeeee, these agencies are going to make sound decisions - just look at what they've done in the past! Heaven forbid that contractors have to wait, tapping their little toes, while a determination is made as to whether their latest strip mining project is going to impact the ecology of the area or not.

The Bush administration shows us once again what god they worship...let the rape of our earth begin - there's money to be made!

This is a slideshow of the group 11th Hour performing at NYC Art Cypher in Staten Island, from my Picasa page. One of many nifty and pretty groovy features that are available from Picasa(for free, no less); and easy enough to spread around just about anywhere I like. Things like this make me really wonder about the value of maintaining(and paying for) a vanity website. Now, Picasa starts off with a gig of space for free(moar space costs $, but can be had at half the cost of hosting), and spiffy features just like this.

And there's the deal. You get a lot more for a lot less-both in money and work, and as my flickr experience has shown me; it actually gets seen by people who might not ordinarily go to a specialy website like mine. Particularly with band snaps like I have here, that can be a really good thing, since my intent is to publicise these folks, many of whom are quite good, but would never be noticed, otherwise. Already, I have a standing invite to write for a 'zine in Gainesville, FL; it's not a lot, but it gets my name; and the bands out there-it can only spread from there.

Posted by Ryland Dear Rich People, Thanks For Supporting Alternative Energy (Finally)
Posted by Ryland on August 4, 2008

Dear Rich People,

Thanks for supporting wind and solar power technology... now that's it's finally becoming a money-making proposition.

Even though we know you'll try to buy up all the patents and spin a new PR mythology about how you've always championed alternative energy, taking credit for technology that you looked down your nose on for the past few decades, thanks for supporting it.

Even though you pooh-poohed alternative energy technology up to now as being "economically non-viable" at best, "hippie", "communist", and "socialist" at worst, or even flat out obstructed its progress due to your interests in fossil fuel techonology, thanks for supporting it.

Even though you'll probably manage to bitch it all up for financial reasons that have nothing to do with the technology, but still manage to blame the technology for your failures ("the technology still hasn't matured"), thanks for supporting it.

Even though you'll most likely take energy sources that are supposed to be environmentally friendly and find a way to turn them into a blight ("we need to cut down this protected forest and build a megawatt wind/solar farm")... thanks for supporting it.

Even though you'll find a way, despite the fact that wind and solar power are renewable and effectively infinite, to make them scarce and hike up the price until it becomes inaccessible to the poor... thanks for supporting it.

You're late to the party, but at least you showed up... just in time to cut yourself a big slice of the cake.

The right and men who live off their second wives' inherited wealth
John McCain was never rich in his own person; he left one wife for a much richer one. Here's what the loony right had to say about another presidential candidate that did the same thing.

Voting for McCain, but still don't feel like he's conservative enough? Have a drink to ease the pain. This may be the funniest (or at least, the most *intentionally* funny) conservative blog I've ever seen; they post news stories and tidbits and rate them by how many cocktails it takes to ease the pain of John McCain's incipient Alzheimer's, maladroitness, and closet liberalism.

McDonald's Ad: "I'm Lovin' It When China Wins"
Reason no. 6 564 437 why I'll never step into a McDonalds. Not even if I were starving and they paid me to eat BACON! while getting a fantastic fellatio of fish from a stacked blonde. This doesn't particularly piss me off, because I expect corporations to act like pigs since their only allegiance is to themselves. Hasn't failed me yet...
